Being sick= Time to blog

Unfortunately, I haven't blogged in almost two months. I rarely have time to sit down and put some thoughts together, and quite frankly, I don't have much to say that matters :) The family is doing well, though Maggie has been sick with a cold for a few days, and as of today, I am sick as well. I have a fever and flu-like symptoms, but I'm hoping it's not the flu, and that it will go away soon.

It's heartbreaking to see your little one suffer through an illness. I don't know how parents of chronically ill children do it! It must take such strength! Now that I am sick, I don't know what will happen tomorrow. The mom is never supposed to get sick....she is the one who has to take care of everyone else, right? I don't want Daniel to have to miss work, but with no family around, I don't know how I can take care of Maggie when I'm feeling weak and having chills. We'll see how it progresses.

Motherhood is going well, though. Maggie and I spend lots of time with our good friends Emily and her daughter Hazel. We get together almost every day to go on walks in the CA sunshine! This definitely helps the mood and is slowly working off those pregnancy pounds. Their friendship has been such a blessing...I don't know what we'd do without it. I would be pretty lonely, that's for sure! Sharing motherhood with a good friend is priceless! I wish I could be in Portland, as so many beloved friends are having babies, but this is where God has us, and I have to make the most of it. I think God knew we needed a friend like Emily to get us through some of the challenges of living away from family and friends, and of new parenthood.

Maggie is getting so big! She is holding her head up more and more, smiling lots, and loves to read books with me. I can tell she's a thinker, like her papa. She brings such joy to our lives!

Anyway...I'd love to hear some advice from you moms out there about what you do when you're sick!

Hmmm... advice.... Well, if begging Daniel to stay home doesn't work... then just snuggle with your baby all day and take it as EASY AS POSSIBLE. Put household work on hold... see if Daniel can go buy you some "necessities" for tomorrow (ibuprofen, good soup, jello, whatever "sicky" food you like).

The misery will pass! I love you, and I wish we were there to help out. Hugs to sweet little Maggie (I'm so sorry she's sick, too!!!)

I must admit, I was thrilled to see a new blog post update! HOpe to talk to you soon :D

katie has give good advice. when I have been sick, I have emailed paul at work a list of things that i need from the store, let him know that i won't be coooking anything exciting for dinner, and then watched a movie with my baby. when they are as young as maggie, it's ok to put on a more adult type movie (not that i am telling you to watch something violent- i'm just saying that she would be fine watching a good chick flick- i can't do that with my boys now, they are too old and, anyway, they would constantly be nagging me to watch something else because they would be bored by my movies:)
get well soon. i am feeling rather under the weather, too. they boys are watching "the land before time" and i am playing on the computer..

It's good to see you and hear how Maggie is doing. I'm sorry everyone is sick.

I agree, beg for help. Other than that, just lay low, keep the baby amused and don't worry about keeping up with housework.

I am so sorry to hear you are sick. I can't add much to the wisdom already posted here other than to repeat it won't last forever. I find I get better much quicker as a mom than I ever did single! Camp out in bed with Maggie, snuggle, nurse, rest... be glad she isn't old enough to crawl around yet!

Sometimes having to concentrate all your 'friend energy' into one, really close friend gives you the opportunity to really bond with that person in a way that doesn't always happen when you are mingling with a larger group. Cherish her!

Oh dear Christi, I do wish I was a bit closer! 3 hours is just too long, but I would be there if I could be!! I agree with Katie and the others, just take it easy. TLC for Maggie and you, you both will be well in a few days-colds can have aches and flue like symptoms...there does seem to be something making the rounds! I always had luck using the nasal syringe to clear my dk nose so they were more comfy. I hesitate to tell you to use any herbs as you are nursing, but once you aren't, Umcka cold-flu care works, as does Yin Chow. And elderberry tincture if you feel a real flue coming on...
I have been there-the whole family had the flue but I had to just wobble through! :)
Good to see your post! Much love to the 3 of you, God Bless and Heal you,
Love Aunt Helen

I wish I could be a helping mommy to you and maggie. Right now, I'm in the middle of helping my sick mommy.
One day, maggie will do the same for you!!

How thankful I am for your good friends Emily and Hazel. Some seasons in life- God gives you that one special friendship- and that is a blessing.

Much love and prayers for my girls

Off topic: The iconography school I studied with just did the icons for the monastery/orphanage in Guatemala. There are pictures on their website and a brief video of Mother Ines talking about it all: www.prosoponschool.org
