Weight Gain Woes

I just returned from my 36+ week appointment, and am somewhat distraught about the number that showed up when I stepped on the scale. I know everyone says, "The weight will come off, don't worry", but that's not the part I am worried about. What I want to know is, why am I gaining so much weight and still receiving comments from people that I am "so small" for being due in a few weeks. I dont' mean to sound vain AT ALL, but where is this 40++ pounds I've apparently gained? Do I have a ginormous baby that is highly skilled at at remaining as compact as possible in my womb so as not to poke out too much?

I loved the doctor's friendly "reminder" that everything I gain from here on out goes directly to the baby.....what is that supposed to mean? Do I put myself and, therefore, my baby on a diet so she won't be too big to push out? It's a rhetorical question, i know dieting during pregnancy is bad. It's just that I don't feel like I overeat, nor do I gorge on junk.

Any of you feel like sharing your weight gain stories from your pregnancies? Should I just let it go, and not worry about the weight? All I know is, I'm getting close to a number I NEVER want to see on a scale, and I don't really know why.

In other baby news, we had an ultrasound to make sure baby is in a head down position, and she is. We asked the Doc to check the gender again, just to be sure, and wouldn't you know it....baby decided to be modest once again (this happened in our last ultrasound). Baby curled up in a tight ball, with her legs crossed....what a modest little thing! So....we're still pretty sure it's a girl, but there is always a chance of being surprised. Whatever gender baby is, we are getting more and more excited to meet our precious child!

I do not have typical pregnancy stories so weight gain for me is different for others (i had to take prednisone during both pregnancies... super high doses with little p so I gained lots of weight that came off pretty quickly and I am unable to nurse due to the different meds I am on so definitely someone else discuss their pregnancy weight stories:)

re. pandora radio... left click on the station you are listening to. then there is an option to add variety. click that. then enter an artist or song or even genre and it will add to your station. also, make sure to click on songs that you like/don't like while they are playing because that helps in creating your station:)
sorry i totally missed your birthday!!! have i ever remembered it?!?!

Don't worry about it!!! I gained 40 lbs with Jessica, and the mid wife was telling me I could have more milk shakes! With Evan I lost weight in the beginning, started out at 175 but ended up being 210 like I said. There is nothing worse than see that 200lb mark! Both my babies were 7lbs 12 oz so they weren't carrying all the weight. After I had Jessica I stayed about 10 lbs heavier than I was pre-pregnancy and after Evan I was about 5 lbs heavier than that. Now I'm still 15lbs heavier than I was when I got married. After I had Evan I was down to 190 within a week, thats 20 lbs. So don't worry its totally normal.

I gained 30 lbs with Christina 22 with Katherine and 12 with yianni. They said the limit was 20 in those days.
I lost all my weight within 3-4 months. Except with Katherine, I had my gall bladder removed with she was 6 weeks old, so, I lost 20 pounds of my pre-pg weight just 6 weeks, YIKES!It wasnt fun. I could only eat popsicles.
Dont worry about your weight, especially at this late date, and, right before Christmas (thats when Christina was born too)
ENJOY these last few weeks!!!!!

So fun to read your blog!

With a first pregnancy, the muscles (everywhere) are still taut, so you won't "show" as much. Also, you have a nicely proportioned torso (not like my stumpy torso), so you have someplace for the baby to 'hide' :)

I felt like I was spinning on an airplane almost the entire 9 months of my first preg. I never actually threw up; I just couldn't eat ANYTHING. I lost 15 lbs first trimester and managed to gain it back plus 10 more by the end (my doc was encouraging me to eat ice cream, bacon, whatever sounded good during the last trimester). Less dramatic with the next two pregnancies.

That might sound all good, especially when I say that by 2 weeks postpartum I was back to my pre-pregnancy weight...but I am one of those unfortunate women who GAINS weight when they nurse (not typical, don't worry). So I began subsequent pregnancies 10 pounds heavier than the last.

But I don't imagine that will be you. I guarantee that a couple of weeks after the baby is born you will get a thrill when you step on the scale and so much weight will be gone! You were in great shape before and your sisters look terrific even three months postpartum, so your genes seems to be geared to returning to a thin, trim figure postpartum.

And, no, how much weight you gain does not mean the baby will necessarily be heavier. :)

Enjoy this time!! When else can you feel "guilt free" about indulging?

Loved Loved those Christmas Tree cutting pictures. It looked like a pristine day- Christmas card perfect!( sans snow)

Well-on the subject of weight gain!-
Here are my stats- #1- 25lbs
#2 30lbs #3 35lb- #4 60lbs!!

With each one- the weight eventually came off- (tho I would still like to lose 20lbs.)
With walking your sweet one in that California sunshine, and running up and down stairs- you should shed the weight fine. (Just give yourself time- and don't panic if it doesn't just fall off.)
We are so excited to be with you, I can't believe our little sweet pea will be here soon.

Love you
marm

Yes, I know it's horrifying. Seriously. BUT... just know that it's completely par for the course, as they say :D

And don't try to lose the weight too quickly after M. is here, okay? You're body needs that fat for her via breastfeeding. Just focus instead on getting lots of sleep (I've heard that sleep is a major aid in post-partum weight loss, which might be true since susy actually sleeps and the weight came off so much faster this time).

And I don't know about you, but comparing the "nice comments" i got, and the photos of how I looked at 35+ weeks, I think people were just being nice to me in regards to my appearance. Haha!

I think I'm 8 lbs away from my "pre-Vasi" weight, but I'm not too anxious to lose it, since I don't think I was at a healthy weight to begin with.

Like I said, don't stress, just sleep and nurse, nurse, nurse! :D After 6-12 weeks, you can start exercising if you like, but don't overdo it.

LOVE YOU!!!

Hi, Christy!

Don't know if you remember me from St. John's. Dragos, Andrei, and I went there for a year before we moved to Houston.

Anyway, I only still have the one, but with him I gained 50lbs. That's right, 50 (maybe more, but my memory isn't so good, probably selectively). All I know is that when I got home from the hospital, I still had 30lbs to lose. I didn't diet or do anything special (except stop drinking regular soda, which is bad for you anyway), and it took me one year to get back into my old clothes. Today I am still 4/5 lbs heavier than before, but I can live with that. I'm guessing that your eating habits and activity level are much better than mine, so I'm betting you will lose all your weight faster.

I think you look great in your pictures anyway. I'm sure you will be a great mom, and that's what really matters.

Thanks for sending me the link to your blog.

Take care,
Melissa-Alexandra

You know, it takes 9 months to grow a baby, and about 9 months to get back to your "prebaby" self (even though some things never quite go back where they were supposed to, I now look like a football lineman with my shoulders, and we won't even go into my feet) but really, it does kind of magically melt away as you get with the routine.

I can already tell blogging is going to be a good thing! Thanks for all the supportive and encouraging comments ladies! It means a lot to me, especially as I am somewhat isolated down here :O)

Hello there Christy-we all love the photos, Angelo said you both look great! :)
As for me, with 5 it varied, however the key was nursing, water, diet and exercise...oh and patience! Somewhere I have a notebook with all the blow by blow records. With Christina I lost all the weight, then after the second two I lost more then quite breast feeding then gained a bit back (I felt that was 'not fair', but how can one argue with nature?!). It took a bit to loose weight after the last two, however I chalk that up to life and being busy. I would still like to loose 10 lb and get my tummy tighter (ha!) then again, I realize having children and raising them with love and well is more important than tummy flatness :)
Being at peace with your body helps too. I think everyone has shared some great ideas and points. I remember my feelings when I hit 176 with Christina (ack), but thankfully that was temporary!
Take care,
Love
Aunt Helen
